    It seems there is more talk than ever about “personal brand journalism.” As journalists, we’re told all the time to “brand ourselves” online and given endless opportunities to beef up our digital footprint with portfolios, social media accounts where our opinions are the star, and fancy websites complete with self-portraits.

    But in the pursuit of fair and balanced journalism, where we’re not to become part of the story, how much does our personal brand matter? Is it disingenuous to care about our brand, or will we simply fall behind without an emphasis on getting our names — and work — into the noise of the Internet?
