    SXSW 2018
    March 9-18, 2018

    CSPA Spring Convention
    March 14-16, 2018
    New York City
    This national gathering of student editors and faculty advisers to newspapers, yearbooks, magazines, video productions, and online media will be held at Columbia University. Delegates can choose from 350 or more sessions organized in seven sequences: newspaper, yearbook, magazine, online media, video/broadcasting, law and ethics and advisers. All seven sequences will run simultaneously throughout the three days of the Convention.

    2018 Nordic Data Journalism Conference
    March 15-17, 2018
    Stockholm, Sweden
    The 2018 Nordic Data Journalism Conference (NODA 2018) will be held during 15-17 March at Södertörn University in Stockholm. This is the fifth in a series and will be marking the return of the conference to its birthplace in Sweden. Since its launch in over four years ago, NODA has achieved an impressive following by data journalists and media scholars after being held in Odense, Denmark (2017), Helsinki, Finland (2016), Ålesund, Norway (2015) and Stockholm, Sweden (2013).

    Power of Narrative Conference

    The Power of Narrative Conference has convened in several places under several names since its founding at Boston University. Our mission remains constant as storytelling journalism goes digital: helping narrative journalists to strengthen their craft skills, puzzle out the complex ethics of intimate journalism, and impart the down-to-earth humanity that is the genre’s strength. The conference talks are stimulating, sophisticated, practical and relevant, aimed at mid-career nonfiction storytellers in many media, offered by terrific and varied practitioners. The vigorous Q and A sessions following each talk keep us on-target. And, between sessions and at meal breaks we program in time to meet speakers and new colleagues and share ideas, aspirations, projects, networks. In these turbulent times, our candid, informed, independent journalism is crucial.

    Broadcasters Education Assocation 2018

    Today’s media is being challenged by a changing workforce and audience. The audience is searching for and watching media that reflects them and their experience.     The 11th IEEE Pacific Visualization Symposium (PacificVis 2018) will be held in Kobe, Japan during April 10 to 13, 2018. Visualization has become an increasingly important research area due to its wide range of applications in many disciplines. PacificVis is an IEEE sponsored international visualization symposium held in the Asia-Pacific region, with the objective to foster greater exchange between visualization researchers and practitioners, and to draw more researchers in the Asia-Pacific region to enter this rapidly growing area of research.

    National JEA/NSPA Journalism Conventions
    April 12-15, 2018
    San Francisco, Calif.
    The National High School Journalism Convention is a semiannual gathering of high school journalists and advisers sponsored by the Journalism Education Association and its partner, the National Scholastic Press Association. The associations partner to prepare hundreds of practical and professional learning sessions, from high-profile keynotes to specific, problem-solving breakouts, hands-on workshops and discussion groups. Other convention activities include an exhibit hall with vendors who sell to student media, JEA’s on-site Write-off contests, NSPA’s Best of Show contest, receptions, awards convocations, critiques, career round tables and evening entertainment.

    NABJ Region I Conference
    April 13-14, 2018
    New York City
    The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) will host its 2018 Region 1 Conference April 13 and 14, 2018 in New York City. The Global Diversity Summit is bringing together hundreds of journalists, communication professionals and students from across the U.S. Northeast to attend the two-day conference.

    International Symposium on Online Journalism
    April 13-14, 2018
    Austin, TX
    Since 1999, journalists, media executives and scholars from around the world have had an annual meeting in Austin, Texas to discuss the impact of the digital revolution on  journalism. The International Symposium on Online Journalism is a program of the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas at the University of Texas at Austin, a unique conference that bridges the gap between academia and the news industry.

    SPJ’s Code of Ethics states that ethical journalism is truthful, compassionate, independent and transparent.     Lenfest Learning Seminar

    2018 August Mapping Boot Camp

    IRE and NICAR conducts this hands-on training using the latest version of QGIS, a free and open-source mapping program.
