It used to be so easy. If you wanted to find out what was going on around town, you picked up an alternative weekly newspaper, free for the taking at every corner cafe and store. But now it seems so much easier to just pick up your phone, pull up an app, search the web or subscribe to email lists for the same info. Alternative weeklies have struggled to stay independent, with the recent sales of Village Voice Media and the San Francisco Bay Guardian. They are trying to stay relevant by launching apps and pushing into blogs and online city guides. But will they survive — and thrive — in the digital age? Will you keep reading them in print or online? Vote in our poll below and give us more details in the comments. For a great discussion on this topic, check out our Mediatwits podcast.
