Each month, MediaShift posts a chart from Storyclash’s ranking of publishers and news stories that get the most social media interactions. Storyclash regularly publishes rankings of Social Media Trends, covering online articles with the most social media interactions on Facebook and Google+.

The Huffington Post and USA Today didn’t change much from February to March and maintain the top two spots in this month’s ranking. But, as we’ll see, the most popular social media sites vary a lot by the level of usage in different countries and demographics. Understanding these differences is important when targeting specific audiences. When comparing the top media publishers in social networks, it’s best to review them by interactions on their posts, not just the number of likes.

The Huffington Post still leads with an astounding number of 29.7 million interactions. USA Today, with a recent increase of 13 percent, holds the second place with over 29 million interactions as well.

Storyclash tracks social media interactions around thousands of stories every minute, giving newsrooms a real-time view of what’s trending right now. With Storyclash Insights, publishers are able to react on trends, watch competitors in real-time and make data driven decisions to optimize their content.
