About the Instructor:
Kyle “Kylos” Brannon is an Assistant Professor in the School of Communcation and serves as the Associate Division Director for Film and Media Arts at American University. He is the co-author of Visual Literacy, A Practical Text on the History, Analysis and Creation of Visual Media (2016, Kendall Hunt Publishing). He specializes in emerging media, including trends in smartphone filmmaking, motion graphics, online video production for social media, and live video art. His work with exhibit media has appeared in numerou spaces around the country, including the Brown v. Board National Historic Site, the US Botanic Gardens, and Historic Jamestowne. This has led to exploring video installation art, most recently for Little Salon DC. Upcoming exhibits include Source Fest DC and The Anacostia Arts Center. He produced the award-winning web series Stage Fright for NBC4 and edits live video projections for DJ performances. He began exploring the world of smart-phone filmmaking when his fiancee surprised him with a set of iPhone lenses. Since then he has hosted workshops at American University, through Mediashift.org and at film & video conferences around the U.S.
