Images and videos race around the world on social media, but before news outlets can report on them, they have to stop to ask, “Is this real?” Students, faculty and professional journalists who will attend the Journalism School Hackathon in October at the University of Georgia will put their energy into developing startups for checking the veracity of content shared online. Ahead of the hackathon, an #EdShift chat on Tuesday, Sept. 20, will explore fact-checking and verification for online media.
The chat will start at 1 p.m. Eastern time/Noon Central/10 a.m. Pacific on Tuesday, and you can find it by searching for the #EdShift Twitter hashtag.
Guests will include Eleanor Farrow of eyeWitness to Atrocities, P.
