Just how good is a smartphone for doing reporting in the field? With the help of apps, accessories and some know-how, any reporter can learn how to do it — and leave behind the aches and pains of lugging around big pro equipment. We convened a great group for a live Twitter chat at #iphonereporting, at the behest of WTOP’s Neal Augenstein, who famously ditched his recording equipment to just use an iPhone for his radio reports.
Guests included Augenstein, BBC’s Marc Settle, former WBUR reporter Bianca Vázquez Toness, and UC Berkeley’s Jeremy Rue — with lots of help from our interactive audience on Twitter. Below are the highlights of the discussion, including great tips, gear, techniques and links to other stories to learn even more.
