Getting a job has always been about who you know. But now, savvy use of social media networks allows job hunters to connect more directly — and effectively — with those who might hire them.

Our #EdShift chat on Twitter on Tuesday, Sept. 15, will explore how students and media professionals can break through to find leads on jobs and connect with recruiters and potential employers using social media. Join us at 1 p.m. Eastern Time / 12 p.m. Central Time / 10 a.m. Pacific Time as we discuss how job-hunters can better leverage online networks to build careers. Just go to the #EdShift hashtag on Twitter at the appointed hour to follow along and participate!

The chat will be moderated by Stacy Forster of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and guests will include Brenda Bernstein, of The Essay Expert, Samra Jones Bufkins of the University of North Texas, Pam Garcia-Rivera of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, MediaShift‘s social media editor Julie Keck and more.

Here is a Storify compilation of the conversation.
