Here’s the latest 4MR audio report from MediaShift. In this week’s edition, I look at the new Google Buzz, offering ways for people to use their Gmail contact list to send out status updates, videos, photos and more. Google has had to react to an array of concerns over privacy and the way Buzz automatically generates followers (and followees). Plus, the Olympics start on a somber note, but are being covered like never before over social media. And I ask Just One Question to NYU J-school grad and former MediaShift contributor Alana Taylor.

  • I signed on to Google Buzz and I have also been on Twitter for about 6 months with my http:www.homearchitects.com . I think they are both viable social media websites and services. I do appreciate the automation features of Google Buzz; that is a plus. I don't think anyone on either on these services should be terribly concerned about privacy, because, let's face it: they are both Social Media; there to allow you to share posts with almost everyone in the world. If that is not what you want to do, then you may not want to sign up, even though both services offer privacy settings. If you really want privacy, just e-mail your friends and don't post messages out there for the world to see. because, the chances are that is where they will wind up. So be nice, and post messages with some redeeming value. Thanks.
