    EveryBlock Launched

    by Adrian Holovaty
    January 24, 2008

We’ve launched the first version of our Knight-funded project, EveryBlock. It offers a news feed for every block, neighborhood and ZIP code in Chicago, New York and San Francisco.

Our launch announcement gives more information about what we’re trying to do.

We’ve still got a long way to go, but it’s good to have this initial version out the door. Please let us know what you think! You can e-mail us at feedback at everyblock.com.

Adrian: Just had a chance to check out EveryBlock. Congrads and Great stuff!!! Coupla questions…

      1) Much of this type of local news and information aggregation seems to depend on generating critical mass of users, and therefore good word of mouth and marketing locally. How are you addressing that challenge specifically and what is your larger business model?

      2) How does EveryBlock distinguish itself from (seemingly) similar efforts like http://www.yourstreet.com/
      http://www.americantowns.com
      http://outside.in
etc.? Is it the feed feature and access to local govt. info? And are you considering partnerships with these and other local news & info aggregation and sharing efforts?
