The idea of news bots — or automated technology for delivering updates to audiences — sounds like science fiction, but news organizations are increasingly using them to provide up-to-the-minute information in an age of limited staffing. In an #EdShift chat on Tuesday, Nov. 15, we’ll dig into how news organizations are taking advantage of this new technology to stay in more regular contact with readers and viewers.
The chat will start at 1 p.m. Eastern time/Noon Central/10 a.m. Pacific on Tuesday, and you can find it by searching for the #EdShift Twitter hashtag.
Guests will include John Keefe of WNYC, who will teach a #DigitalEd training called “How to Make a News Bot Work For You” on Wednesday, Nov. 16, as well as MetricShift‘s Tim Cigelske, Tanya Lokot of Dublin City University, Amanda Hickman of BuzzFeed, Damian Radcliffe of the University of Oregon and more. The chat will be moderated by Stacy Forster of UW-Madison.
