Turn your phone into a feasible production camera
Whether you’re shooting coverage for your high-concept documentary, making a low-budget music video for your band, or shooting pick-ups for your corporate online PSA, there are a multitude ways to use your phone as a legitimate route for production.
This training will illustrate the use of the iPhone as a low-budget professional production camera. We’ll include short practical tips on shooting techniques,
We’ll review and demonstrate some of the emerging technology, apps and software alongside of traditional tips and tricks that can be added to a smartphone in order to make it a more robust production camera.
While this class will concentrate on an iPhone, most concepts are applicable to all smartphones.

- Apps for Shooting: Take control of your focus, exposure, frame rate, etc
- Lens Options: Taking advantage of different lens options for dynamic shooting
- Tripods: You need a tripod
- Audio: Mics & Adapters
- Pitfalls of the Smart Phone’s size
- Tips and Tricks for shooting (Hand-Held Movement, Using your body, Segmenting your coverage)

About the Instructor:
Kyle “Kylos” Brannon is an assistant professor of Film and Media Arts. He is a filmmaker, motion graphic designer, and VJ. His work with exhibit media has appeared in the Brown v. Board National Historic Site, the US Botanical Gardens, Historic Jamestowne, the National Constitution Center and other spaces around the country. He specializes in emerging media, including trends in smartphone filmmaking, motion graphics, online media production, and live video art. He produced the award-winning web series Stage Fright for NBC4 and American University and is currently in production for a documentary to be shot partially through smartphone production.
