DBW E-Book Bestsellers: Seasoned Authors Dominate as Average Price Rises

All four of the new titles to hit this week’s E-book Best-Seller List are by best-selling authors, like Harlan Coben and John Green, whose previous books have found broad appeal among readers.

That’s hardly surprising for a best-seller list, of course, and it’s something we’ve seen before. In the cases of John Green’s 2009 novel “Paper Towns” and Diana Gabaldon’s “Outlander,” an upcoming movie and new episodes in a TV series, respectively, are likely responsible for driving the titles they’re based on back up the rankings.

So as it rounds out its ninth week at No. 1, “The Girl on the Train” remains something of an outlier for being a debut title by a first-time author and unconnected with a big- or small-screen adaptation.

Another noteworthy exception to the noticeable dominance of best-selling, veteran authors is Angela Marsons, a U.K. novelist whose thriller “Silent Scream” scores a place within the top 25 for a second week running.

The average price of a bestseller ticks upward to $6.14 after a sharp drop to $5.74 last week.
