DBW E-Book Bestsellers: Low Prices Dominate First E-book Best-Seller List of 2015

On the first E-book Best-Seller List of the new year, low prices appear to carry the day.

The average price of a bestseller is just $4.36, down from $5.96 the week before the holidays. Discounting meant to appeal to last-minute holiday shoppers is the likeliest reason for the sharp drop.

Only a single title among this week’s top 25 has a price-tag greater than $10.

E-book gift-giving could also account for the return of some of the year’s top titles, like Veronica Roth’s “Divergent” and “The Maze Runner” by James Dashner, both within the top ten.

We saw a similar reappearance of hit e-books that had long slipped off the rankings in the week heading into Black Friday. Year-end ‘best of 2014’ lists probably also helped drive renewed interest in some of those titles.

E-book best-sellers from the week ending 1/2:

  1. “Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption,” Laura Hillenbrand, Penguin Random House, $4.99
  2. “Big Little Lies,” Liane Moriarty, Penguin Random House, $3.99
  3. “Gone Girl: A Novel,” Gillian Flynn, Penguin Random House, $4.99
  4. “American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History,” Chris Kyle, Scott McEwen and Jim DeFelice, HarperCollins, $2.50
  5. “All the Light We Cannot See: A Novel,” Anthony Doerr, Simon & Schuster, $6.99
  6. “Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail,” Cheryl Strayed, Penguin Random House, $6.15
  7. “Divergent,” Veronica Roth, HarperCollins, $2.99
  8. “The Maze Runner,” James Dashner, Penguin Random House, $1.99
  9. “Dark Places: A Novel,” Gillian Flynn, Penguin Random House, $2.99
  10. “The Pact, Karina Halle,” Self-published, $0.99
