The Digital Book World E-Book Best-Seller list tracks e-book sales ranking and price data across six major e-book retailers with the goal of providing the most accurate picture of which e-books are most often purchased by consumers and at what price point. The full methodology is available here.
It’s official: Over the next month, readers will be able to get some of the hottest new releases for less than they’d pay for a 12-inch sandwich at Subway.
For instance, Donna Tartt’s “The Goldfinch” (No. 16, Hachette) is now just $2.99*, and it’s part of Amazon’s “12 Days of Deals in Books.” Other top-rated books are also just as inexpensive.
Meanwhile, prices of best-selling e-books have scarcely ever been lower. The top four e-books on this week’s best-seller list are all priced below $4.00 (and all from “Big Five” publishers). There are only five ebooks in the top 25 priced over $10.00 and none in the $8.00 to $9.99 price range. As a result, the average price of a bestselling e-book is now $6.04.
Look for the bestseller list to stay at or near this level for the next month.
*“The Goldfinch” is $7.99 on the DBW list currently because the list is based on last week’s prices. Next week, it will be listed at $2.99 — or lower, should any bookseller decide to discount it below $2.99.
“Hunger Games” Resurgence
For the first time in 2013, all three “Hunger Games” titles are on the e-book bestseller list — and not at their lowest prices. The trilogy is likely being buoyed by the release of the second film in a planned trilogy, Catching Fire. Also on the list, however, is the whole trilogy, available for $12.99, which is a bargain compared to how its been priced other times.
