The Digital Book World E-Book Best-Seller list tracks e-book sales ranking and price data across five major e-book retailers with the goal of providing the most accurate picture of which e-books are most often purchased by consumers and at what price point. The full methodology is available here.

Big publishers dominate the high end of this week’s e-book best-seller list, despite the efforts of thousands of self-published authors who have from time to time displaced the professional publishing houses at the top. This week’s big news in publishing — the trial of the U.S. vs. Apple, et al, an e-book price-fixing antitrust case — might have you wondering why there are so many e-books priced above $9.99 on the list. Well, many of those books are published by companies that are still operating under what’s called “agency” pricing — specifically, Penguin and Random House. In a few months, when those two merge and Penguin inks new e-book deals with Amazon and others, the prices of those best-selling books could go down. Here’s the latest top 10 e-book best-sellers.

  1. “Inferno: A Novel” (Robert Langdon) by Dan Brown; Random House; $12.99
  2. “And the Mountains Echoed: A Novel” by Khaled Hosseini; Penguin; $12.99 — New
  3. “The Hit” by David Baldacci; Hachette; $8.99
  4. “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald; Simon & Schuster; $4.99
  5. “The Forever of Ella and Micha” by Jessica Sorensen; Hachette; $2.99
